Duncan, British Columbia real estate is located in the Cowichan Valley of southern Vancouver Island, 36 miles north of Victoria’s real estate.  A whistle-stop at William Duncan's farm in the 1880s, Duncan real estate is now an integral part of the civic centre of the Cowichan Valley.

As it straddles the Cowichan Indian Reserve that crosses Trans-Canada Highway 1 midway between Nanaimo real estate and Victoria, Duncan, the “City of Totems,” invites tourists to stretch their legs by following the yellow footprints through a forest of eighty hand-carved totem poles on public display in Duncan’s parks, downtown streets, and throughout neighborhoods of Duncan real estate.   The Cowichan region, one of the friendliest and most spectacular places to play golf on Vancouver Island, features many splendid golfers’ dream homes in Duncan

Vancouver Island real estate near premium golf courses offers fresh air and sunshine midst spectacular scenery.  Duncan Meadows Golf Club is a championship 18-hole par 72 for golfers of all levels, mixing parkland and links-style holes exquisitely sculpted from the gently rolling and verdant landscape.  The new Greg Norman course on the Cliffs of Maple Bay will open spring 2008.  Additionally, the seaside Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club in Cobble Hill, the Cowichan Golf and Country Club over Cowichan Bay, and Honeymoon Bay’s, March Meadows tree-lined course—each as beautiful and the next —are nearby.

The rich history and fascinating legends of the Northwest Coast natives and the pristine natural surroundings offer continually fascinating points of interest.  The superb Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre exhibits feature traditional foods, storytelling, and Cowichan artists and elders at work weaving, beading, and spinning.   As the traditional home of the Coast Salish Indians, their famous hand-knit sweaters uniquely designed by each family are available here.  The Cowichan Valley Museum features pioneer artifacts, displays and photographs and award-winning wineries draw thousands to the region.

From peaceful, easy walks to rugged climbs, the Cowichan countryside offers an abundance of hiking opportunities for all levels of hikers.  The Trans Canada Trail, the Cowichan River Corridor, and provincial parks offer gorgeous scenery and spectacular views.  Several outstanding points of interest extol the fascinating details about the pristine environment, including the British Columbia Forest Discovery Centre, the Cowichan Valley Railway Steam Train, the Vancouver Island Trout Hatchery, the Freshwater Eco-Centre, Somenos Marsh, and Pacific Northwest Raptors.  From her sandy beaches to sun-dappled forests and historic trestle bridges, be prepared to love this special place.

It is not surprising that an overwhelming number of artisans live among the 5,000 residents.  Cowichan writers and poets, musicians, potters, dancers, actors, glass blowers, woodworkers and other artisans all flourish within this creative environment.   On a Saturday morning, a lively Farmer's Market in City Square features locally grown produce, handmade crafts, and other unique offerings.  Moreover, everyone is welcome to view spectacular gardens and the studios of local artisans in the valley, also known by its First Nations’ population as, "The Warm Land.”
