Nanaimo is the second largest city on Vancouver Island with a population of approximately 86,000 residents, as of 2013, and is often called the ‘Hub City’. It is located on Vancouver Island and is approximately 23 km/14 miles from Vancouver, on the Mainland. The Mainland can be reached in less than 2 hours by ferry and less than 20 minutes by sea plane, both of which offer regular schedules for travel back and forth. The recently expanded airport which has the capability to fly direct to Mexico and Hawaii began direct flights to Calgary by Westjest in July 2013 with more destinations no doubt to follow.
Nanaimo has a stunning geography with many shorelines, waterfronts and varied landscapes. There are also over two dozen parks and the city of Nanaimo boasts one of the prettiest waterfronts in Canada.
There are numerous outdoor and year round activities on Vancouver Island including hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, fishing, golf or world-class skiing at Mount Washington, less than 2 hours away.
There are also a number of cultural experiences in Nanaimo at the Port Theatre, as well as many of the surrounding areas including Ladysmith and Chemainus theatres.
Nanaimo has consistently been ranked as a top destination by Conde Nast travel magazine and offers the perfect mix of work and play. There is also a good choice of restaurants catering to all culinary tastes. As for the shoppers Woodgrove Mall is the largest mall on Vancouver Island with over 150 stores.
Nanaimo is a small city that offers something for everyone, and with its pristine beauty, the incredible array of adventures and activities available, the city is the ideal destination for vacationers, business travellers, or those wanting to make a new home in the “Harbour City”.
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent experience with Kim. We found him to be a complete professional. His knowledge, and calm demeanor helped immensely as we worked our way through the real estate sale and purchase process. In addition, he has a very strong work ethic.
